The DanceFlurry Organization is a nonprofit educational organization which is dedicated to the preservation, study, teaching, enjoyment and continuing evolution of American and international traditional and historical dance, music and song. Its mission is to present and promote live traditional music and dance and to expand participatory dancing opportunities in the Capital region.

We invite you to join the Board of Directors for the term starting on June 1, 2026.

What does the DFO Board do?
Oversees budgets, policy, and staff for sponsored events, including the Flurry Festival
Supports DFO event organizers to plan and promote their programs
Plans and participates in outreach events to engage the community and recruit new participants
Offers  grants to support traditional music and dance events

Feedback, personal experience, and judgment to guide the organization by making decisions as a Board member

What is expected of you?
A three-year term of service, and membership in the organization
Attendance at monthly, evening Board meetings (in person or online)
Regular engagement with Board email communications
Active participation on at least one committee

DANCEFLURRY COMMITTEES
Current committees include Standing (or Board) committees and Organization committees.

|| Standing Committees ||

Budget & Finance Committee, which reviews and recommends event budgets for Board approval, brings financial concerns or considerations to the Board, and tracks the organization’s income and expenses.

Executive Committee, comprising the officers of the Board: the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.

Nominating Committee, which develops a slate of new board members each year and conducts onboarding.

Community Culture. Works to create an environment of comfort, safety and DEAI (diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion) at all DFO events by developing policy and guidelines for organizers and participants and sponsoring training sessions.

Endowment. Responsible for solicitation and management of endowment gifts, investments, and disbursements.

Fundraising.  Builds financial stability for the DFO by seeking support from members, donors, grant programs, and sponsorships.

IT Project and Work Group.  Investigates solutions and new framework for websites, tools for CRM and other administrative functions.

Liaison. Board members serve as liaisons to provide support for all event organizers and facilitate communication with the board.

Outreach / Media. Builds broader public awareness of DFO activities by participating in events like farmers markets and health fairs, or hosting special music, dance or educational programs, and develops stronger connections with members, donors, and participants.
Monitors and produces materials for communications through our website, social media, and newsletters.

Program Support — Works with groups outside the DFO who have proposed dance programs or events and need help with organization and/or funding. 
An annual budget provides Program grants for community events and DFYO! Grants (Dance Flurry Youth Outreach) to support events for youth and the developmentally disabled.

OUR SPONSORED AND AFFILIATE EVENTS are run by volunteer organizers, under the supervision of the Board. We maintain an event calendar on our website.

STAFF  The DFO Treasurer and Bookkeeper manage all fiscal tasks, and the DFO Administrator handles the day-to-day details for the board, committees, and event organizers and works on publicity and fundraising. 
Six part-time Managers and administrative staff plan and run the Flurry Festival.
