Outreach & Grant-Funded Events

GRANT-FUNDED PROGRAMS

In June, 2021, the DFO Youth Outreach grant program (DF-YO) awarded a grant to the family-oriented Young at Heart series which took place outdoors at Dewey Memorial Hall in Sheffield, MA. This grant supported (distanced) community dancing with Paul Rosenberg and a performance by Aldo Lavaggi

Dewey Hall’s “Young at Heart” series is family friendly and welcomes all ages. “Young at Heart” occurs weekly on Saturday mornings starting at 10am. The series will feature different art forms each week in an engaging light-hearted way.

Saturday, July 17, 2021: YOUNG AT HEART: ALDO LAVAGGI (MUSIC)

Saturday, August 14th, 2021: YOUNG AT HEART: FAMILY DANCE AROUND THE WORLD

The toe-tapping music consists of reels, jigs, polkas, hornpipes, and waltzes.  While participation in the dancing is encouraged — and it’s hard to sit still — it’s fun to just listen to the music and watch too!

On May 20, 2021, DFO provided a grant for the Brunswick Community Library to hold an outdoor community dance led by Peter, Paul, and George. See video at https://www.facebook.com/brunswicknylibrary/videos/297641855780840/

OUTREACH EVENTS

On October 2, 2022 the DFO sponsored a Mini Contra at the Upper Madison Street Fair in Albany. Four sets of veteran dancers and some new dancers enjoyed two dances called by Melanie Axel-Lute, with lively tunes by George Wilson, Mark Badgon, Vonnie Estes, and David Barnert. Lots of attendees stopped by to chat, pick up flyers, and share in our excitement around the resumption of our Albany events.

On July 28, 2020, DFO presented The Sheiks of Third Street, featuring Zach Cohen on Guitar, Mike Jenkins on Bass and Vocals, and Pete Vombaco on Drums, at the pavilion at Shaker Heritage Society in Albany.
