DESCRIPTION:Experience the heritage and technical brilliance of Kathak dance. Elevate your practice\, deepen your understanding of Indian classical heritage\, and challenge your rhythm.  This free workshop is sponsored by a Program Grant from the DanceFlurry Organization. \n\n\n\nKathak is a major classical dance form of Northern India\, characterized by intricate footwork (Tatkar)\, rapid spins (Chakkars)\, and expressive storytelling.  This specialized workshop delves deep into the Lucknow and Jaipur lineage\, focusing on the synthesis of fluid grace and mathematical precision.   \n\n\n\nOpen to all ages and abilities.  Prior dance experience is recommended but not required. To register\, or for more information contact info@devibollywooddance.com or info@danceflurry.org. \n\n\n\nDownload a flyer here. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe event will be structured in two sessions to accommodate different skill levels:— Fundamentals Workshop (1 hour): An introductory session for adults focusing on basic posture\, rhythmic footwork\, and the history of the art form. — Intermediate Workshop (1 hour): A technical session following the intro class\, focusing on complex rhythmic patterns (Tala) and “Abhinaya” (the art of expression) with a choreographic phrase that will be taught to attendees. \n\n\n\nWorkshop Highlights:Technical Mastery: Intensive focus on posture\, alignment\, and the execution of lightning-fast Chakkars (spins).Rhythmic Complexities: Understanding Taal (time cycles) and executing intricate footwork variations.Abhinaya & Grace: Cultivating emotional depth through subtle expressions and upper-body fluidity. \n\n\n\nSuggested clothing:  Traditionally for Kathak\, students wear a kurta (long top or dress)  and leggings or loose workout clothes that show the feet/ankles. \n\n\n\nThe workshop will be taught by Gaitrie Subyran\, Founder and Artistic Director of Devi Performing Arts based in Buffalo\, NY. They specialize in artistic and authentic performances\, art education\, and classes. \n\n\n\nThe event is free\, but registration is strongly encouraged. \n\n\n\nLocation: Albany Public Library\, Washington Avenue Branch\, 161 Washington Avenue\, Albany\, NY 12210 \n\n\n\nCost: FREE

SUMMARY:Tri-City Folk Dancers
DESCRIPTION:Most Fridays 7:30-10:00Occasional “Daylight Dances” on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.  Check calendar or FB. \n\n\n\n Scotia United Methodist Church\, 201 N Ten Broeck St\, Scotia\, NY 12302 \n\n\n\nInternational Folk Dancing includes the traditional dances of many countries and cultures done to authentic music in a variety of formations (long and short lines\, circles\, broken circles\, and a few duos\, trios\, and individual). Our group is particularly fond of dances from the Balkan countries (Bulgaria\, Macedonia\, Albania\, Croatia and Serbia)\, Romania\, Greece\, Turkey\, Armenia\, Israel\, Brittany\, French Canada and other countries. We mostly dance to recorded music but have live music events a few times a year. \n\n\n\nWe welcome all ages and genders\, and no partner is necessary\, as most dances do not involve couples. We welcome beginners and children who are interested in dancing. We encourage those to come early in the evening when instruction is emphasized and tailored to newer dancers. Typically\, the level of difficulty increases as the evening progresses\, and we move on to dances requested by the group. \n\n\n\nComfortable clothing and clean\, soft-soled shoes are recommended. \n\n\n\nParking is free\, and we enter the building from the door nearest the parking lot. We ask a donation of $8\, as you are able. \n\n\n\nQuestions? Want to be added to (or deleted from) our email list?  Contact Barb or Bob at (518) 452-1154\, or email Barb at macleanbarb@aol.com.
