DESCRIPTION:Are you an intermediate to advanced musician\, ready to play up to dance speed\, and looking for a new direction and challenge?\n\n\n\nYou\, too\, can be part of the Megaband!\n\n\n\nLearn from one of the most highly-respected fiddlers in the northeast\, and hone your skills as a dance musician!\n\n\n\nThe Capital District Megaband is a community contra dance band based in Upstate New York and sponsored by the DanceFlurry Organization. The band consists of local amateur musicians interested in playing dance music for dancers. \n\n\n\nParticipating musicians are from all over the Capital region. Besides the fiddle\, guitar\, flute\, and keyboard\, any instrument that can play for dances is welcome. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nGeorge Wilson (Photo: Lawrence White) \n\n\n\nDirector / conductor George Wilson works with the group to focus on building repertoire and developing the nuances and groove necessary for good dance music. \n\n\n\nIntermediate level players and higher are encouraged to join. Those who play by ear and those who read music are both accommodated. The goal of the Megaband is to provide an opportunity for musicians to play in a dance band setting. There are no individual instrument lessons. Dues are collected to pay for expert instruction and leadership\, as well as rehearsal space. DESCRIPTION:Albany Contradances are held every second and fifth Friday of the month\, September through June\, in the large ballroom of the Albany Elks Lodge\, located at 25 S Allen St\, Albany\, NY. \n\n\n\nDancing starts at 8pm\, with a beginner lesson at 7:45pm. Now is a great time to be a beginner! Please share this event with anybody who may be interested\, regardless of experience level! \n\n\n\nContra dancing has its roots in English country dancing\, and may feel familiar to square dancing. \n\n\n\nPre-register with this QR Code\n\n\n\nAs we’re living in a world with covid-19\, we will have a number of precautionary measures in place: \n\n\n\n\nWe will be requiring proof of vaccinations – you must have had at least one booster. You can either send us a picture of your card virtually (via the link above)\, or show it at the door.\n\n\n\nDancers are encouraged to pre-register in advance at this link. You only need to pre-register once for the series.\n\n\n\nAll dancers must wear high-quality masks while dancing and when nearby other people. Please bring your own N95\, KN95\, or equivalent. We will have a limited number of N95s for those who need them.\n\n\n\nPlease stay home if you have cold-like symptoms\, even if you think it’s “just allergies”.\n\n\n\nWe strongly recommend taking a rapid test before leaving home the day of the event and are grateful for your diligence around communal health!\n\n\n\n\nIn partnership with the DFO\, we would like to remind all attendees that consent is vital to a safe and inclusive dance experience. Be polite when asking for dances\, gracious if rejected\, and always ask before trying to dip\, lift\, or twirl your partner. If someone at the dance causes you to feel uncomfortable\, please speak with an organizer\, who will be wearing a name badge. SUMMARY:North Berkshire Community Dance
DESCRIPTION:Dances are held on the second Saturdays of the month and include contras and squares all done to great live music.  The sessions are open to beginners\, families\, and life-long dancers!   All dances are taught and no partner is required. Come alone or bring a friend or two. \n\n\n\nThe early part of the evening will be particularly welcoming to beginning dancers and families with children; at the end\, we’ll have Chorus Jig. (What’s Chorus Jig? Read on to the end!) \n\n\n\nNew in 2023 \n\n\n\nNew location: the community hall of the First Congregational Church\, which is at 906 Main Street\, Williamstown\, MA. \n\n\n\nVaccination & Mask Requirement: unfortunately\, some elements that make our dances wonderful community events are also great for spreading respiratory disease. Luckily\, it’s possible to have most of the fun\, and minimize the misery\, with suitable precautions. To this end we’ll be requiring everyone in the hall to wear masks and show proof of Covid-19 vacination. We’ll follow the rules outlined by the Friends of the Greenfield Dance: http://www.friendsofgreenfielddance.org/covid-19-policy/ \, and we’ll have an optional pre-registration system to help ease lines at the door. \n\n\n\nNew Admission Fee Schedule — Pay What You Can: Pre-pandemic\, we put a lot of effort into setting admission fees to both cover expenses and also let as many people as possible join us. Charging different amounts by category got complicated\, and still didn’t work for everyone\, so we’ve decided to let you decide for yourself how much to contribute. You may choose to contribute by helping with practical matters\, like checking people in at the door\, or sweeping the floor at the break. However\, we do use money to pay our performers (though never quite enough for their specialized skills) and to pay rent for the hall\, so contributions from $5 to $15 per person are most welcome. \n\n\n\nNew Dance of the Year — Chorus Jig! Admittedly\, Chorus Jig is old\, not new\, but dancing it every month here in Williamstown is new for us. Chorus Jig is a dance with a name\, and a history\, and a reputation for boisterous fun. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUPCOMING DANCES\n\n\n\nMarch 11\, 2023: Quena Crain calling\, band soon to be announced. Quena has special facility with family dances\, so this is a particularly good month to bring the whole family for the first half of the evening. We’ll still dance “Chorus Jig” near the end of the evning\, as every month. \n\n\n\nApril 8\, 2023: Caller and band soon to be announced. DESCRIPTION:Capital English Country Dancers\n\n\n\nCECD recently celebrated 30 years of dancing!For more information contact CapitalECD@gmail.com\, 518-477-5684 \n\n\n\nCapital English Country Dancers is an Affiliate of the DanceFlurry Organization and a member of Country Dance and Song Society \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCapital English Country Dancers 2022-23 Season \n\n\n\nDoors open at 1:30. Dancing is 2:00 – 5:00 PM with a break midway during the afternoon.  Dances are at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Albany (Albany UU)\, 405 Washington Avenue\, Albany\, NY 12206.  Admission is $12 (cash or check). SUMMARY:North Berkshire Community Dance
DESCRIPTION:Dances are held on the second Saturdays of the month and include contras and squares all done to great live music.  The sessions are open to beginners\, families\, and life-long dancers!   All dances are taught and no partner is required. Come alone or bring a friend or two. \n\n\n\nQuena Crain calling\, band soon to be announced. Quena has special facility with family dances\, so this is a particularly good month to bring the whole family for the first half of the evening. We’ll still dance “Chorus Jig” near the end of the evning\, as every month. \n\n\n\nNew in 2023 \n\n\n\nNew location: the community hall of the First Congregational Church\, which is at 906 Main Street\, Williamstown\, MA. \n\n\n\nVaccination & Mask Requirement: unfortunately\, some elements that make our dances wonderful community events are also great for spreading respiratory disease. Luckily\, it’s possible to have most of the fun\, and minimize the misery\, with suitable precautions. To this end we’ll be requiring everyone in the hall to wear masks and show proof of Covid-19 vacination. We’ll follow the rules outlined by the Friends of the Greenfield Dance: http://www.friendsofgreenfielddance.org/covid-19-policy/ \, and we’ll have an optional pre-registration system to help ease lines at the door. \n\n\n\nNew Admission Fee Schedule — Pay What You Can: Pre-pandemic\, we put a lot of effort into setting admission fees to both cover expenses and also let as many people as possible join us. Charging different amounts by category got complicated\, and still didn’t work for everyone\, so we’ve decided to let you decide for yourself how much to contribute. You may choose to contribute by helping with practical matters\, like checking people in at the door\, or sweeping the floor at the break. However\, we do use money to pay our performers (though never quite enough for their specialized skills) and to pay rent for the hall\, so contributions from $5 to $15 per person are most welcome. \n\n\n\nNew Dance of the Year — Chorus Jig! Admittedly\, Chorus Jig is old\, not new\, but dancing it every month here in Williamstown is new for us. Chorus Jig is a dance with a name\, and a history\, and a reputation for boisterous fun. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUPCOMING DANCES\n\n\n\nApril 8\, 2023: Caller and band soon to be announced. Taught by Don Bell with recorded music. \n\n\n\nThe workshop will teach basic dance figures and preview dances that will be danced at the April 2 event. New dancers are encouraged to attend so that they can quickly improve their dancing skills and get more enjoyment from regular dances. Experienced dancers are encouraged to attend and act as ‘dance angels’ by partnering with new dancers. If you attend the workshop\, you will be in a good position to better enjoy the dancing at the next Capital English Country Dance\, April 2. \n\n\n\nDoors open at 1:30. Workshop is 2:00 – 4:00 PM. SUMMARY:North Berkshire Community Dance
DESCRIPTION:Dances are held on the second Saturdays of the month and include contras and squares all done to great live music.  The sessions are open to beginners\, families\, and life-long dancers!   All dances are taught and no partner is required. Come alone or bring a friend or two. \n\n\n\nCaller and band soon to be announced. This year we will dance the old chestnut\, “Chorus Jig”\, every month. \n\n\n\nNew in 2023 \n\n\n\nNew location: the community hall of the First Congregational Church\, which is at 906 Main Street\, Williamstown\, MA. \n\n\n\nVaccination & Mask Requirement: unfortunately\, some elements that make our dances wonderful community events are also great for spreading respiratory disease. Luckily\, it’s possible to have most of the fun\, and minimize the misery\, with suitable precautions. To this end we’ll be requiring everyone in the hall to wear masks and show proof of Covid-19 vacination. We’ll follow the rules outlined by the Friends of the Greenfield Dance: http://www.friendsofgreenfielddance.org/covid-19-policy/ \, and we’ll have an optional pre-registration system to help ease lines at the door. \n\n\n\nNew Admission Fee Schedule — Pay What You Can: Pre-pandemic\, we put a lot of effort into setting admission fees to both cover expenses and also let as many people as possible join us. Charging different amounts by category got complicated\, and still didn’t work for everyone\, so we’ve decided to let you decide for yourself how much to contribute. You may choose to contribute by helping with practical matters\, like checking people in at the door\, or sweeping the floor at the break. However\, we do use money to pay our performers (though never quite enough for their specialized skills) and to pay rent for the hall\, so contributions from $5 to $15 per person are most welcome. \n\n\n\nNew Dance of the Year — Chorus Jig! Admittedly\, Chorus Jig is old\, not new\, but dancing it every month here in Williamstown is new for us. Chorus Jig is a dance with a name\, and a history\, and a reputation for boisterous fun. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUPCOMING DANCES\n\n\n\nMay 13\, 2023: Caller soon to be announced. The Resonators were featured at several Dance Flurry Festivals and played at our Albany 1st Friday Swing Dance a bunch of times. And now we are so fortunate to bring them back.  They play Swing and Blues music of such greats as Muddy Waters\, Freddie King and Albert Collins. SUMMARY:Albany Contradance & DFO Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Albany Contradances are held every second and fifth Friday of the month\, September through June\, in the large ballroom of the Albany Elks Lodge\, located at 25 S Allen St\, Albany\, NY. \n\n\n\nDancing starts at 8pm\, with a beginner lesson at 7:45pm. Now is a great time to be a beginner! Please share this event with anybody who may be interested\, regardless of experience level! \n\n\n\nThe DFO Annual Membership Meeting will be held during the break of this dance\, at approximately 9:30 pm. Any members attending only this meeting\, which will be held in the smaller room off the main hall\, are not subject to admission or Covid requirements; however these requirements will apply to anyone who chooses to dance before or after the meeting. \n\n\n\nContra dancing has its roots in English country dancing\, and may feel familiar to square dancing. \n\n\n\nPre-register with this QR Code\n\n\n\nAs we’re living in a world with covid-19\, we will have a number of precautionary measures in place: \n\n\n\n\nWe will be requiring proof of vaccinations – you must have had at least one booster. You can either send us a picture of your card virtually (via the link above)\, or show it at the door.\n\n\n\nDancers are encouraged to pre-register in advance at this link. You only need to pre-register once for the series.\n\n\n\nAll dancers must wear high-quality masks while dancing and when nearby other people. Please bring your own N95\, KN95\, or equivalent.
