SUMMARY:North Berkshire Community Dance
DESCRIPTION:North Berkshire Dances are held on the second Saturdays of the month from 7:30 to 10 PM in the community hall of the First Congregational Church\, 906 Main Street\, Williamstown\, MA. Dances include contras and squares all done to great live music.  The sessions are open to beginners\, families\, and life-long dancers!   All dances are taught and no partner is required. Come alone or bring a friend or two. \n\n\n\nAs a community dance in a small college town\, we welcome people of all ages and backgrounds into the ever-changing tradition of New England contra dance.  Contra dancing is the contemporary face of a living tradition; some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed. Some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed; all are good fun and a pleasurable occasion for meeting and interacting with people both new and familiar. \n\n\n\nEveryone is welcome. New dancers and families with children are encouraged to arrive at 7:30 for an introductory lesson. Come with or without a partner; most people change partners for each dance throughout the evening. \n\n\n\nThe dances run 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on the second Saturday (most months) in the Community Hall of the First Congregational Church\, 906 Main St.\, Williamstown. DESCRIPTION:Contravention (Alan Thomson\, Eric Buddington\, Aldo Lavaggi) provides the music for caller Bob Isaacs and graduates of his calling workshops. \n\n\n\nThe workshops will be held Saturday afternoons: Oct 26\, Nov 2\, Nov 23\, and and Dec 7. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlbany Contradances are held every second and some fifth Fridays of the month\, September through June\, in the large ballroom of the Albany Elks Lodge\, located at 25 S Allen St\, Albany\, NY. \n\n\n\nDancing starts at 8pm\, with a beginner lesson at 7:45pm. Now is a great time to be a beginner! Please share this event with anybody who may be interested\, regardless of experience level! \n\n\n\nContra dancing has its roots in English country dancing\, and may feel familiar to square dancing.  Albany Contra uses the gender-free calling terms Larks and Robins. \n\n\n\nAs we’re living in a world with Covid-19: \n\n\n\n\nMasks are optional\n\n\n\nWe request that if you have symptoms or have recently been exposed to Covid\, please stay home.\n\n\n\n\nIn partnership with the DFO\, we would like to remind all attendees that consent is vital to a safe and inclusive dance experience. Be polite when asking for dances\, gracious if rejected\, and always ask before trying to dip\, lift\, or twirl your partner. If someone at the dance causes you to feel uncomfortable\, please speak with an organizer or Dance Ambassador\, who will be wearing a button. Dances include contras and squares all done to great live music.  The sessions are open to beginners\, families\, and life-long dancers!   All dances are taught and no partner is required. Come alone or bring a friend or two. \n\n\n\nAs a community dance in a small college town\, we welcome people of all ages and backgrounds into the ever-changing tradition of New England contra dance.  Contra dancing is the contemporary face of a living tradition; some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed. Some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed; all are good fun and a pleasurable occasion for meeting and interacting with people both new and familiar. \n\n\n\nEveryone is welcome. New dancers and families with children are encouraged to arrive at 7:30 for an introductory lesson. Come with or without a partner; most people change partners for each dance throughout the evening. \n\n\n\nThe dances run 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on the second Saturday (most months) in the Community Hall of the First Congregational Church\, 906 Main St.\, Williamstown. DESCRIPTION:* At the summer location in North Adams * \n\n\n\nLiz Nelson will call. Music by mixer bands facilitated by Eric Buddington and Seamus Connor.  \n\n\n\nCalling workshop in afternoon (3-5 pm) preceding dance (7:30PM). Larks and robins role terms. \n\n\n\nThe dance will run in the Community Hall of the All Saints Episcopal Church\, 59 Summer St.\, North Adams. Admission is pay-as-you-can:  $5 – $15\, or barter equivalent\, suggested.  \n\n\n\nAs a community dance in a small college town\, we welcome people of all ages and backgrounds into the ever-changing tradition of New England contra dance.  Contra dancing is the contemporary face of a living tradition; some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed. Some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed; all are good fun and a pleasurable occasion for meeting and interacting with people both new and familiar. \n\n\n\nEveryone is welcome. New dancers and families with children are encouraged to arrive at 3:30 for an introductory lesson. DESCRIPTION:Melanie Axel-Lute calling for Here on the Hill: Tory Horner (fiddle)\, Annie McDougall (fiddle)\, Rose Powell (guitar) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHere on the Hill is a dynamic contra trio from Boston featuring Tory Horner\, Annie McDougall\, and Rosemary Powell. With Tory and Annie’s soaring fiddles and Rose’s driving guitar\, the trio brings a mix of classic New England contra tunes\, modern gems\, and original tunes to dance floors across the Northeast. Since meeting in the fall of 2024\, they have been playing as many dances as they can\, and they are excited to be embarking on their first big tour in November. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlbany Contradances are held every second and some fifth Fridays of the month\, September through June\, in the large ballroom of the Albany Elks Lodge\, located at 25 S Allen St\, Albany\, NY. \n\n\n\nDancing starts at 8pm\, with a beginner lesson at 7:45pm. Now is a great time to be a beginner! Please share this event with anybody who may be interested\, regardless of experience level! \n\n\n\nContra dancing has its roots in English country dancing\, and may feel familiar to square dancing.  Albany Contra uses the gender-free calling terms Larks and Robins. \n\n\n\nAs we’re living in a world with Covid-19:– Masks are optional– We request that if you have symptoms or have recently been exposed to Covid\, please stay home. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn partnership with the DFO\, we would like to remind all attendees that consent is vital to a safe and inclusive dance experience. DESCRIPTION:* At the Williamstown location * \n\n\n\nMusic by Raven & Goose\, all the way from the west coast! Calling by Ben Sachs-Hamilton\, larks and robins role terms. \n\n\n\nAdmission is pay-as-you-can:  $5 – $15\, or barter equivalent\, suggested.  \n\n\n\nAs a community dance in a small college town\, we welcome people of all ages and backgrounds into the ever-changing tradition of New England contra dance.  Contra dancing is the contemporary face of a living tradition; some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed. Some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed; all are good fun and a pleasurable occasion for meeting and interacting with people both new and familiar. \n\n\n\nEveryone is welcome. New dancers and families with children are encouraged to arrive at 7:30 for an introductory lesson. DESCRIPTION:Friday Nov 14 and Saturday Nov 15\, 2025\n\n\n\nLiz Nelson calling with music by the Gaslight Tinkers! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Gaslight Tinkers are\, from left\, Eli Martinez (drums)\, I-Shea (percussion/vocals)\, Clara Constance-Stickney (fiddle)\, Garrett Sawyer (bass) and Peter Siegel (mandolin and guitar). \n\n\n\nPhoto: Peter Siegel \n\n\n\n\n\nContrafest is three dances over the two days\, plus a half hour of waltzes tossed in on Saturday evening. See the full schedule below. Note that the sliding scale for admissions varies from our regular monthly dances\, and this year we’re also offering a Full-Fest price good for all three dances. \n\n\n\nFull 2-day Schedule: – Friday Lesson and Contra Dance (7:45pm – 11:00pm) : $15-$25 – Saturday Exciting Contras (2pm – 5pm) : $14-$25 – Saturday Waltzes (7:30pm to 8:00pm) AND Contra Dance Party (8pm – 11pm) : $15-$25 \n\n\n\nFull-Fest (All 3 Dances): $45 -$55 \n\n\n\nCalling will use Larks and Robins to denote dance roles.  No experience necessary. No partner needed. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCOVID policy:  Masks optional but encouraged \n\n\n\nIf the COVID-19 hospital admissions level in Albany or Rensselaer County is high on the day of the dance\, masks will be required. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n Support the Abany Contra Dance and help spread the word with a T-shirt!!   \n\n\n\nShirts will be available at Contra Fest for $25.
