DESCRIPTION:* Moving to North Adams for the summer!  * \n\n\n\nGood music\, good dancing\, good fun\, details TBA \n\n\n\nAdmission is pay-as-you-can:  $5 – $15\, or barter equivalent\, suggested.  \n\n\n\nAs a community dance in a small college town\, we welcome people of all ages and backgrounds into the ever-changing tradition of New England contra dance.  Contra dancing is the contemporary face of a living tradition; some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed. Some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed; all are good fun and a pleasurable occasion for meeting and interacting with people both new and familiar. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEveryone is welcome. New dancers and families with children are encouraged to arrive at 7:15 for an introductory lesson. DESCRIPTION:The Albany Contra Dance is held every second and some fifth Fridays of the month\, September – June\, in the large ballroom of the Albany Elks Lodge\, located at 25 S Allen St\, Albany\, NY. Dancing goes from 8PM-11PM. \n\n\n\nNow is a great time to be a beginner!  Be sure to attend the 7:45 pre-dance Beginner Lesson where the dance caller will teach you some frequently used dance moves.  Contra dancing has its roots in English country dancing\, and may feel similar to line dancing & square dancing. \n\n\n\nThe Albany Contra Dance uses the calling terms of “Larks & Robins” to denote dancing roles.  Masking for health safety is welcome\, but not required.  This is a chem. free\, family friendly\, all welcoming dance community. \n\n\n\nWe are currently scheduling Bands & Callers for the 2026-2027 Season\, They will be updated shortly!

See the full schedule below. Note that the sliding scale for admissions varies from our regular monthly dances\, and this year we’re also offering a Full-Fest price good for all three dances. \n\n\n\nFull 2-day Schedule: – Friday Lesson and Contra Dance (7:45pm – 11:00pm) : $15-$25 – Saturday Exciting Contras (2pm – 5pm) : $14-$25 – Saturday Waltzes (7:30pm to 8:00pm) AND Contra Dance Party (8pm – 11pm) : $15-$25 \n\n\n\nFull-Fest (All 3 Dances): $45 -$55 \n\n\n\nCalling will use Larks and Robins to denote dance roles.
