DESCRIPTION:Albany Contradances are held every second and fifth Friday of the month\, September through June\, in the large ballroom of the Albany Elks Lodge\, located at 25 S Allen St\, Albany\, NY. \n\n\n\nDancing starts at 8pm\, with a beginner lesson at 7:45pm. Now is a great time to be a beginner! Please share this event with anybody who may be interested\, regardless of experience level! \n\n\n\nContra dancing has its roots in English country dancing\, and may feel familiar to square dancing. \n\n\n\nPre-register with this QR Code\n\n\n\nAs we’re living in a world with covid-19\, we will have a number of precautionary measures in place: \n\n\n\n\nWe will be requiring proof of vaccinations – you must have had at least one booster. You can either send us a picture of your card virtually (via the link above)\, or show it at the door.\n\n\n\nDancers are encouraged to pre-register in advance at this link. You only need to pre-register once for the series.\n\n\n\nAll dancers must wear high-quality masks while dancing and when nearby other people. Please bring your own N95\, KN95\, or equivalent. We will have a limited number of N95s for those who need them.\n\n\n\nPlease stay home if you have cold-like symptoms\, even if you think it’s “just allergies”.\n\n\n\nWe strongly recommend taking a rapid test before leaving home the day of the event and are grateful for your diligence around communal health!\n\n\n\n\nIn partnership with the DFO\, we would like to remind all attendees that consent is vital to a safe and inclusive dance experience. Be polite when asking for dances\, gracious if rejected\, and always ask before trying to dip\, lift\, or twirl your partner. If someone at the dance causes you to feel uncomfortable\, please speak with an organizer\, who will be wearing a name badge. Please share this event with anybody who may be interested\, regardless of experience level! \n\n\n\nContra dancing has its roots in English country dancing\, and may feel familiar to square dancing. \n\n\n\nAs we’re living in a world with covid-19\, we will have a number of precautionary measures in place: \n\n\n\n\nFor our fall dances (Sept-November) we are moving to a new\, more flexible covid policy. As long as the level of hospital admissions in Albany and Rensselaer counties is low or medium on the Monday before the dance\, we require all participants to either: \n\nWear a mask\, or \n\n\n\nShow proof of vaccination\, or \n\n\n\nShow proof of a negative rapid test\, taken the same day as the dance. \n\n\n\nParticipants only need to fulfill one of these requirements. The exception is if one of the counties shows a high level of hospital admissions on the Monday before a dance\, then all participants will be required to wear masks for that dance. \n\n\n\n\n\nMasks will be required for all dances December through February.\n\n\n\nWe request that if you have symptoms\, please stay home.\n\n\n\n\nIn partnership with the DFO\, we would like to remind all attendees that consent is vital to a safe and inclusive dance experience. DESCRIPTION:Caller Qwill Duvall with a great band \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlbany Contradances are held every second and some fifth Fridays of the month\, September through June\, in the large ballroom of the Albany Elks Lodge\, located at 25 S Allen St\, Albany\, NY. \n\n\n\nDancing starts at 8pm\, with a beginner lesson at 7:45pm. Now is a great time to be a beginner! Please share this event with anybody who may be interested\, regardless of experience level! \n\n\n\nContra dancing has its roots in English country dancing\, and may feel familiar to square dancing.  Albany Contra uses the gender-free calling terms Larks and Robins. \n\n\n\nAs we’re living in a world with Covid-19: \n\n\n\n\nMasks are optional\n\n\n\nWe request that if you have symptoms or have recently been exposed to Covid\, please stay home.\n\n\n\n\nIn partnership with the DFO\, we would like to remind all attendees that consent is vital to a safe and inclusive dance experience. Be polite when asking for dances\, gracious if rejected\, and always ask before trying to dip\, lift\, or twirl your partner. If someone at the dance causes you to feel uncomfortable\, please speak with an organizer or Dance Ambassador\, who will be wearing a button. Come alone or bring a friend or two. \n\n\n\nAs a community dance in a small college town\, we welcome people of all ages and backgrounds into the ever-changing tradition of New England contra dance.  Contra dancing is the contemporary face of a living tradition; some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed. Some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed; all are good fun and a pleasurable occasion for meeting and interacting with people both new and familiar. \n\n\n\nEveryone is welcome. New dancers and families with children are encouraged to arrive at 7:30 for an introductory lesson. Come with or without a partner; most people change partners for each dance throughout the evening. \n\n\n\nThe dances run 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on the second Saturday (most months) in the Community Hall of the First Congregational Church\, 906 Main St.\, Williamstown. One musician will be absent\, but the three coming are George Wilson\, Rebecca Weiss\, and Becky Hollingsworth.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe send a quick email reminder once a month before each dance.
