SUMMARY:North Berkshire Community Dance
DESCRIPTION:* Moving to North Adams for the summer!  * \n\n\n\nOpen band led by George Wilson and Becking Hollingsworth\, homegrown callers \n\n\n\nAdmission is pay-as-you-can:  $5 – $15\, or barter equivalent\, suggested.  \n\n\n\nAs a community dance in a small college town\, we welcome people of all ages and backgrounds into the ever-changing tradition of New England contra dance.  Contra dancing is the contemporary face of a living tradition; some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed. Some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed; all are good fun and a pleasurable occasion for meeting and interacting with people both new and familiar. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEveryone is welcome. New dancers and families with children are encouraged to arrive at 7:15 for an introductory lesson. DESCRIPTION:Caller Liz Nelson with music by Ben Smith (fiddle\, banjo)\, Eric Buddington (fiddle)\, and Seamus Connor (guitar\, mandolin) \n\n\n\nThis will be the last dance before our regular summer break for July and August. We hope to see you this summer at the nearby Buhrmaster Barn Dances. \n\n\n\nAlbany Contradances are held every second and some fifth Fridays of the month\, September through June\, in the large ballroom of the Albany Elks Lodge\, located at 25 S Allen St\, Albany\, NY. \n\n\n\nDancing starts at 8pm\, with a beginner lesson at 7:45pm. Now is a great time to be a beginner! Please share this event with anybody who may be interested\, regardless of experience level! \n\n\n\nContra dancing has its roots in English country dancing\, and may feel familiar to square dancing.  Albany Contra uses the gender-free calling terms Larks and Robins. \n\n\n\nAs we’re living in a world with Covid-19:– Masks are optional– We request that if you have symptoms or have recently been exposed to Covid\, please stay home. \n\n\n\nIn partnership with the DFO\, we would like to remind all attendees that consent is vital to a safe and inclusive dance experience. Be polite when asking for dances\, gracious if rejected\, and always ask before trying to dip\, lift\, or twirl your partner. If someone at the dance causes you to feel uncomfortable\, please speak with an organizer or Dance Ambassador\, who will be wearing a button. SUMMARY:DFO Grant-Funded Event - Beginners' Contra Dance at Averill Park High School - Public Invited!
DESCRIPTION:The Contra Corners Club at Averill Park High School is hosting a beginner’s contra dance event that is open to the public! This event will take place Thursday\, May 14 from 4 to 6 PM at Averill Park High School. \n\n\n\nAll dances willl be taught by Rindle Glick\, and music will be provided by fiddler George Wilson and pianist Alan Thomson.   \n\n\n\nThe event will take place in the music/chorus room of the high school. Park in the lot in front of the school\, and enter the school through the main entrance. \n\n\n\nNo partners needed and dancers of all experience levels are welcome. Admission is free\, with optional donations. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nContra Corners is a new dance club founded this year that aims to bring traditional folk dance and music to students at Averill Park High school. This event was made possible with a Youth Outreach Grant from the DanceFlurry Organization. The club hopes to continue collaborating with the DFO in the future!

SUMMARY:North Berkshire Community Dance
DESCRIPTION:* At the Williamstown location * \n\n\n\nMusic by The Vintons (George Wilson\, Andy Davis\, Marko Packard). Hannah Johlas will call\, using gender neutral role terms. \n\n\n\nAdmission is pay-as-you-can:  $5 – $15\, or barter equivalent\, suggested.  \n\n\n\nAs a community dance in a small college town\, we welcome people of all ages and backgrounds into the ever-changing tradition of New England contra dance.  Contra dancing is the contemporary face of a living tradition; some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed. Some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed; all are good fun and a pleasurable occasion for meeting and interacting with people both new and familiar. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEveryone is welcome. New dancers and families with children are encouraged to arrive at 7:15 for an introductory lesson. DESCRIPTION:Friday Nov 14 and Saturday Nov 15\, 2025\n\n\n\nLiz Nelson calling with music by the Gaslight Tinkers! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Gaslight Tinkers are\, from left\, Eli Martinez (drums)\, I-Shea (percussion/vocals)\, Clara Constance-Stickney (fiddle)\, Garrett Sawyer (bass) and Peter Siegel (mandolin and guitar). \n\n\n\nPhoto: Peter Siegel \n\n\n\n\n\nContrafest is three dances over the two days\, plus a half hour of waltzes tossed in on Saturday evening. See the full schedule below. Note that the sliding scale for admissions varies from our regular monthly dances\, and this year we’re also offering a Full-Fest price good for all three dances. \n\n\n\nFull 2-day Schedule: – Friday Lesson and Contra Dance (7:45pm – 11:00pm) : $15-$25 – Saturday Exciting Contras (2pm – 5pm) : $14-$25 – Saturday Waltzes (7:30pm to 8:00pm) AND Contra Dance Party (8pm – 11pm) : $15-$25 \n\n\n\nFull-Fest (All 3 Dances): $45 -$55 \n\n\n\nCalling will use Larks and Robins to denote dance roles. DESCRIPTION:Special SUNDAY afternoon dance! \n\n\n\nCome join the Open Band \n\n\n\n* At the summer location in North Adams * \n\n\n\nHannah Johlas will call all dances\, starting the evening with easy dances friendly to newcomers and families with children. Hannah will teach new moves and skills as needed\, so that beginners can dance with everyone right from the start.   \n\n\n\nMusic will be provided by an open band\, led by Van Kaynor on fiddle and Becky Hollingsworth on keyboard.  “Open band” means that anyone with an acoustic instrument is welcome to join.  A list of likely tunes is available at https://northberkshiredance.org/tune-list/ \n\n\n\nThe dance will run 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Community Hall of the All Saints Episcopal Church\, 59 Summer St.\, North Adams. Admission is pay-as-you-can:  $5 – $15\, or barter equivalent\, suggested.  \n\n\n\nAs a community dance in a small college town\, we welcome people of all ages and backgrounds into the ever-changing tradition of New England contra dance.  Contra dancing is the contemporary face of a living tradition; some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed. Some of the dances are hundreds of years old\, some are recently composed; all are good fun and a pleasurable occasion for meeting and interacting with people both new and familiar. \n\n\n\nEveryone is welcome. New dancers and families with children are encouraged to arrive at 3:30 for an introductory lesson.
