FAQ -- Frequently Asked Questions
GENERAL INFORMATION
Q: Is this event mostly/only for people who dance?
A: The Flurry is for everyone! Whether you dance (at any level, or wish to learn) or just enjoy good music, concerts and performances, there's something for everyone, any age. There are many beginner-oriented events, family events, and craft vendors.
Q: Are there family events?
A: We have several sessions for families and young children (storytelling, singing, games, and dance). Events are coded as to the type of audience/participants and the skill level. Anything that has a code with "[F]" is geared toward families and young children. A code with "[T]" is something geared specifically toward teens.
Q: Do I need special dance shoes?
A: We recommend soft-soled, clean shoes (not worn outdoors) on all dance floors. This helps preserve the floors, and cuts down on dust. Many people bring a second pair of comfortable, soft-soled shoes just for dancing. If you do not have a second pair, please clean your shoes well, before walking on any dance floor.
Q: Do you have to pre-register for events or workshops?
A: No. Just purchase a ticket for a day, night, all-day, or all-weekend. We never sell out of tickets at the door (Advance sales are time-limited).
Q: Are there craft vendors?
A: Yes, a limited number selling clothes, jewelry, dance shoes, music-realated crafts/instruments, soaps and other items. We also have a Festival Sales table where you can purchase performer's cd's, tapes, music books -- as well as festival-related items such as t-shirts, hats, mugs, bags, etc. Vendor space is limited.
TICKETS FAQ
NOTE: We cannot process credit cards at the Festival. "At-Door" Tickets are cash or check, only. "Full-Festival" tickets are available online for a limited time, via PayPal (you do not need a PayPal account) until deadline date (usually late January).
Q: How do I obtain advance tickets?
A: Check our Tickets page (usually late December-late January) for purchase instructions by mail, or limited online orders.
Q: Can I order advance tickets for someone else?
A: Yes, but you can only pick up tickets under your name. If you are ordering together, but arriving separately, notify us of the names of ALL in your party, and we will gladly hold tickets under individual names.
Q: Why can't discounted Student/Child tickets be mailed to me in advance?
A: Visual ID is required for student/child tickets. However, Seniors who are DanceFlurry Organization members do not require ID.
Q: What is the turn-around time for processing Flurry tickets?
A: Ticket orders are processed in the order in which they are received. All orders will be mailed by the Friday before the Festival weekend. We cannot, in the constraints of time, confirm receipt of your order. Your cancelled check is your receipt.
If you are concerned
about receiving your ticket on time, have it held at the City Center Box Office. For tickets ordered online, please recheck the ordering address before submitting your order!
ALSO NOTE: If you order close to the deadline, and think that your MAILED ticket will not reach you in time, you should request that we hold your ticket (at time of purchase) for pickup at the Advance Ticket window.
Q: I can't make it. Can I get a refund on advance discount tickets?
A: There are no refunds for tickets ordered online. For paper form orders, please see the "Ticket Refund" page for information on how to get a refund before the refund cut-off date. NOTE: You may resell your ticket to someone else.
Q: What if I forget or misplaced my tickets?
A: You must purchase a new ticket at the festival. If you find your lost tickets, you may get a refund for your replacement purchase, by returning your *unused* original tickets. See the Ticket page for contact information.
Q: Can tickets bought for one day be exchanged for another?
A: You may make an even exchange at the door, provided you make the exchange *before* the time period of the tickets you hold.
Q: How should one pay for tickets if living in Canada?
A: All tickets must be paid for in U.S. funds. In the past,
Canadian participants have sent Money Orders or Bank Checks from a U.S. fund account. We will hold your tickets at the advance ticket table, since mailing may be delayed.
Q: Does my young child need a ticket?
A: Ages 5 and under are free. All children, six and over require a ticket (wristband). Young children MUST wear their wristbands at all times, and those 12 and under MUST be supervised. (We also suggest that you create a nametag for your young child, with the child's name and parent's name and cell phone written on it, in the unlikely event that you become separated.)
Q: Do you run out of at-door tickets?
A: No. All tickets are available at the door, the weekend of the festival at the City Center Lobby.
Q: I just want to listen to the music. Are there different costs for observer vs. participant?
A: Listening to a dance band and not dancing, is just like going to a concert. All dance & workshop venues require a ticket to enter. HOWEVER: There are a few Festival areas open to the public free of charge. These are the Hilton Hotel Pavilion (presentations/scheduled jams), Hilton Hotel Gallery (vendors, jamming, food), and the Parting Glass Pub (concerts).
