Dear Friends,
YOUR INVITATION: On the first day of summer, the doors of Great Camp Sagamore open for a special Summer Solstice celebration: the DanceFlurry’s ENGLISH Country Dance Weekend and FIREFLY Ball. Deep in the Adirondack Mountains on the shores of Lake Sagamore, this former Vanderbilt retreat and National Historic Landmark will be the site of our celebrations; where the lake’s waters sparkle, the loons call and the pines sway. As if this idyllic setting were not enough, be serenaded by beautiful music, swept up in wonderful dancing, and enjoy recreational activities and new friends all weekend long.
DANCE MASTER: the congenial Tom Amesse. With his sonorous voice and gracious ways, he’s one of the best.
MUSIC: Karen Axelrod, Peter Barnes, and Aldo Fabrizi who comprise the incomparable 3rd String Trio. Their elegant and energetic music will lift you off your feet.
DANCING: English Country at its best! Daytime workshops, welcome and farewell dances, and highlight of the weekend, the Firefly Ball on Saturday night. All dances taught and prompted.
LEISURE TIME: When you’re not dancing, you could glide out onto the lake in one of the camp’s kayaks, roll a few balls in the Vanderbilt’s ten-pin bowling alley, play a game of croquet, take a tour of the camp’s rustic Adirondack-style buildings or just sit on the dock, enjoying the scenery and chatting with friends. In honor of the solstice, we’ll crowd around the campfire and be enchanted by storytelling after the Saturday evening ball.
WEEKEND SCHEDULE:
Friday -- Welcome dinner and dance party
Saturday (day) -- Dance workshops, special concert by the 3rd String Trio, leisure pursuits
Saturday (eve) -- Firefly Ball and campfire
Sunday -- Farewell Dance, leisure pursuits, and departure mid afternoon
